The PDG team wants our patients to understand that dental hygiene is not only important for the health of their teeth and gums, but for their overall health. That is why we employ some of the best hygienists in The Greater Washington, D.C. area.
DENTAL EXAMS & CHECK-UPS
Routine checkups are the backbone of a healthy mouth. The American Dental Association recommends that patients see their dentists two-times a year for hygiene appointments during which the PDG team will examine teeth and gums looking for signs of tooth decay, gingivitis and other health problems all of which, if not treated, can lead to major oral concerns such as infection, gum disease and tooth loss. X-Rays are a significant diagnostic tool to find these underlying problems. Only necessary X-rays are taken on a case-by-case basis. For more, please go to “Dental Cleaning.”
The PDG team wants our patients to understand that dental hygiene is not only important for the health of their teeth and gums, but for their overall health. It’s the time and place for detecting dental problems before they have the chance to develop into more serious (and more expensive) medical issues. That is why we employ some of the best hygienists in The Greater Washington, D.C. area.
We firmly believe that a regularly scheduled hygiene appointment is one of the most important services we offer. A clinical procedure that is necessary for maintaining healthy gums. In other words, a dental cleaning is not just a “really good cleaning.” Even the most efficient brushers can get an infection in areas that a regular toothbrush cannot reach.
Our hygienists will not only help remove harmful plaque, but will also remove stains caused by certain foods, drinks or cigarettes. A regular hygiene appointment lasts about an hour.
ORAL CANCER SCREENING
Oral cancer appears as a growth or sore in the mouth that does not go away and can be life threatening if not diagnosed and treated early. Oral cancers include cancer of the lips, tongue, cheeks, floor of the mouth, hard and soft palate, sinuses and throat.
As part of your routine dental exam, PDG will conduct an oral cancer screening exam, feeling for lumps or irregular tissue changes in your neck, head, face, and oral cavity and looking for any sores or discolored tissue. If you notice any of these changes between visits, you should contact PDG immediately.
Oral hygiene instructions
You can continue the hygiene treatment the PDG team starts at our office by brushing regularly, including your tongue, using mouthwash and dental floss in order to clean in places the toothbrush cannot reach. We will teach you effective techniques to fit your individual needs.
